The CED 7000 Shot Timer
edge s crucial in law enforcement firearms training, SWAT teams and Special Forces units as well as in the world of competitive target shooting. It was in the arena of International Practical Pistol Confederation ( IPSC ) competitive shooting that the need for a timer that could both give the competitor an electronic beep as a signal to start the course of fire and accurately measure the time taken for a competitor to complete a course of fire first came about.
n set up costs were prohibitive. During a chance meeting with Competitive Edge Dynamic’s ( CED ) owner, Charles Hardy a surprising fact came to light that CED were also developing a new compact timer. Combining Saul’s experience and knowledge of IPSC shooting sports and CED’s extensive capabilities and resources in electronic production, they combined their idea and visions for a new shot timer. The result was the CED 7000.Here the CED 7000 is being used to record the time of a competitor to complete a stage in the IPSC European Championship.
Timer Capabilities
The CED is the smallest, compact, lightweight timer on the market. Weighting in at 80 grams, it measures 100 x 47 x 18.5 mm. The basic function of this timer is to record the time it takes a competitor to complete a stage in an IPSC practical pistol competition. When switched on pressing the start button starts a three second count down timer, ( which can be altered to give a fixed or random start time ). Once the count down reached zero a beep gives the shooter a cue to start the stage. Each shot fired is recorded on the timer, until the shooter completes the stage. The number of shots fired and the split times between shots can be examined on the LCD screen by pressing the “review” button.
The CED 7000 will record the time taken for a shooter to complete a course of fire. The silicon skin will protect the timer when it rains or when you drop it.
As well as timing competitions the 7000 can also be used for training purposes in target shooting, law enforcement or by military units. The memory storage enables the information to be reviewed and if need be, recorded at a later stage. The 7000 can also be used as a stop watch or even an alarm clock. You can use it in a silent mode to record the time taken for other people to complete a course of fire. A time and date function can also be set up. The “menu” button reveals the range of functions that the timer can perform.
Timer Accessories
The CED 7000 can be attached to a wrist strap, which enables you to time others in competition or yourself during training sessions.
Each 7000 comes with a mains charger. A vehicle charger that can be plugged into your car cigarette lighter can also be obtained. DO NOT under any circumstances be tempted to use your mobile phone mains or car charger, as this will cause irreparable damage.
I have been using this timer for the past two years for timing competitors in competition, my own personal training and training others in coaching and development courses. While attending IPSC competitive events I have noticed that the CED 7000 is becoming commonly encountered in the competition circuit. As well as being developed primarily for IPSC competitive events the CED 7000 is now also another product developed for competitive shooting that now sees widespread use in law enforcement and military training. An all black version is available for those who want it. It can equally be used for timing individual shooters in competitive events, personal development or as an aid to determine the time taken to carry out coordinated dynamic drills involving numerous fast moving individuals.
The CED 7000 can equally be used for timing competitors in competition, your own personal training and the training others in coaching and development courses.
