The 5.11 pants
At the 2010 European Handgun Championships all the range officers and match officials were decked out in 5.11 tactical pants and shorts and also in specially designed range officer shirts made to IPSC specifications. Law enforcement, military, medical and fire and rescue professionals worldwide consistently choose the 5.11 Tactical Pants for both on and off-duty wear. First specified by the FBI National Academy as standard training issue, the pants have enjoyed considerable popularity over the past 30 years.
Functionality

Made of 8.5-oz. cotton canvas the 5.11 Tactical Pants stands up to the rigors of daily use. Known for comfort, functionality and fit, the tactical pants feature a self adjusting comfort waistband that helps you bend and stretch easily.
Storage
Front pockets are strong and roomy; inverted pleats on the cargo pockets remain flat until needed. A narrow thigh pocket accommodates a magazine, cell phone or utility knife. The extra deep rear slash pockets are easily accessed and hold extended mags, a baton or a flashlight, amongst other items. You can also use the utility strap to secure other equipment or to hang your ear protection, when at the range.

Durability
DurabilityThe 5.11 Tactical Pant utilises a proprietary weave that binds in on itself to prevent raveling. Double and triple needle stitched construction is utilised throughout in high stress areas add to the strength of the tactical pants. The double reinforced seat and knees provide abrasion protection and interior knee slots can accept 6mm neoprene kneepads.
Law enforcement, military, medical and fire and rescue professionals worldwide have been using 5.11 Tactical Pants for many years. This use has also spread into the sports shooting market as well.
Hardware
The 5.11 Tactical Pant uses YKK® zippers and PRYM® snaps, both of which are top of the line in the industry. On the front a convenient D-ring holds your keys, or ID. The fit of the 5.11 Tactical Pant is based on a formula created 30 years ago from its mountaineering roots. Designed for active movement in changing conditions, the pants perform on individuals of all shapes and sizes. This same utility is also found in the 5.11 Tactical Short.
The 5.11 tactical shorts offer all the advantages of the pants, but are more suitable for warmer weather.
I spent some time with the 5.11 Tactical design, sales and marketing people at the 2010 EHC discussing equipment that they could design and manufacture, which could be used in IPSC competition and in the tactical arena also. As well as being at the EHC, 5,11 Tactical will also be playing a roll at the IPSC World Shoot in 2011.
