.45 ACP Reloads for the S&W; 625 REVOLVER
The Smith & Wesson ( S&W ) Model 625 is a six shot double action revolver chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, which uses a full moon clip to secure and eject six rounds of ammunition. Based on S & W's N (large) revolver frame, the Model 625, was introduced in 1988. It is equipped with a 5 inch barrel with a full length underlug.
.45 ACP RELOADS FOR THE SMITH AND WESSON 625 REVOLVER
Still in production, this revolver has been continously updated and is used by the world’s best IPSC competitors such as Jerry Miculet and Cliff Walsh; thus it is the most popular revolver in used in IPSC competition.
The following .45 ACP calibre loads were assembled using Hodgdon HS6 and Longshot powder and Frontier .45 ACP 230 grain lead round nose ( LRN ) and full metal case ( FMC ) bullets. They were tested in a Smith and Wesson 625 revolver with a five inch barrel. The velocities were recorded using a CED Millennium M2 Chronograph.
Hodgdon HS6
HS6 is a fine spherical powder that has a wide application in both pistol and shotgun reloading. In pistol it can be used for 9mm, .38 Super, .40 S&W,10mm Auto and .45 ACP.
Hodgdon Longshot
Longshot is a spherical propellant used for shotgun cartridges, but which also has numerous pistol applications. In pistol it can be used for 9mm, .38 Super, .357 Magnum, .40 S&W,10mm Auto and .45 ACP.
The overall length of the loaded cartridge is critical to both function correctly through the pistol and to maintain safe pressures. We used an overall length of
FMC = Full Metal Case
LRN = Lead Round Nose
REMEMBER
If you increase the overall length you will DECREASE the velocity and pressure.
If you decrease the overall length you will INCREASE the velocity and pressure.

All of the above loads were assembled and tested to achieve a power factor of 170 plus for IPSC Revolver Division. When we get a variety of different powders we will produce further loads for the S&W 625 revolver.
