Spending a lot of time in the outdoors during the autumn and winter hunting deer I require a good quality boot to both protect my feet and keep them warm and dry. For the past few months I have been using the YDS Odin GTX Boot.

YDS are licensed to produce Gore-Tex footwear. This is not only a product and performance benefit but an assurance of product quality as the stipulated laboratory testing of footwear including Gore-Tex is rigorous. As well as Gore-Tex, YDS have partners and suppliers like Bayer and Invista and are the largest European military footwear manufacturer by four million pairs. They have a SATRA accredited in house testing laboratory, to ensure quality standards and to sustain continuous product improvement. The factory is capable of producing 10,000 pairs of boots and shoes every day.

The Odin GTX combat boot is available in black and the size range is 6.5 to12 UK mens ( 40 to 47 Continental ) and 3 to 9 in UK ladies. The upper is 2.2 – 2.4 mm black S3 waterproof breathable leather with Cordura and the inner lining is MS Light Rock Gore-Tex laminate, which is high wicking with a fast drying time and is both waterproof and breathable. This lining will keep your feet dry in the wettest of conditions. The soling technology is a lightweight energy absorbing dual density PU / Rubber soling system with Vibram high abrasion and slip resistant outsole giving both a good grip and traction. This is important when you are covering rough terrain and scaling or traversing obstacles. The sole of the boot is heat resistant to 300°C, which minimises the effects of both hot and cold surfaces.

This boot has a very quick fitting – break in time and wearing the boots around home for a short period made soon them comfortable to wear for extended periods. On the inside open cell foam is used to give your feet a comfortable fit and eliminate any pressure points from developing. Getting them plastered in muck and dirt each time I used them a hose pipe or bucket of water and a stiff nylon brush soon had them clean.

The Odin GTX uses a Vibram sole to give the user good grip and traction.

Dual Density Rubber Technology

Dual Density Rubber ( DDR ) technology is a unique rubber soling formula designed for tough working environments and ensures a boot that is both lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods. This boot has a tough rubber outsole with SRC slip resistance. An eight eyelet LG lacing system is used and all fittings are rust proof.

The boot upper is made with a Gore Tex liner to keep your feet dry.

Air injected into the rubber creates a lightweight cushioned midsole to increase comfort and shock absorption YDS is the world’s leading producer of Dual Density Rubber (DDR) injected soles. This is a special formula of rubber compound which is injected in two densities to the uppers; a tough rubber outer skin and a lower density midsole where air is injected into the rubber to create a lightweight shock absorbing cushioned bed for the foot. This technology was developed for those working in extreme conditions where a highly durable but comfortable boot is required.

At the end of a days use a hose pipe or bucket of water and a stiff nylon brush will keep the YDS boots clean
