Prior to being used by Primetake, this site was used by the Royal Observer Corps and was a fully equipped nuclear bomb shelter. The underground tunnel and room complex provide Primetake with an ideal facility to assemble, test and store the range of products it manufactures.

Primetake was established in 1991, as a designer and manufacturer of special purpose ammunition. It operates from a secure site three miles east of Lincoln, where it has research and development, manufacturing, firing and storage facilities. Prior to being used by Primetake, this site was used by the Royal Observer Corps and was a fully equipped nuclear bomb shelter, with associated facilities. It came equipped with a large complex of secure working and storage facilities, both above and below ground. The underground tunnel and room complex provide Primetake with an ideal facility with work areas in which to assemble, test and store the range of products it manufactures.

Primetake specialises in the development and manufacture of specialised small arms ammunition, match grade sniper ammunition and shotgun ammunition for tasks such as hostage rescue, demolitions and public disorder control. Another area it specialises in is the design and manufacture of bird scaring cartridges to help with the control of bird movement and dispersal for areas such as airports, airfields and farms. It also produces an extensive range of secure storage cabinets, lockers and armouries as currently used by the UK Armed forces, Police and Prison service for which they also provide other specialist products.
An area of particular expertise is 12 Gauge shotgun ammunition with a variety of payloads for military, police and other customers. Primetake designs and manufactures other specialist ammunition and equipment to specific customer requirements. Its flexible production methods allow ammunition to be manufactured cost effectively from trial quantities to full production, and all products are controlled and manufactured to ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.
Shotgun Ammunition
SHOTGUN AMMUNITIONIrritant Multi Purpose
Primetake IMP (Irritant Multi‐Purpose) rounds are designed to be used during operations where CS infiltration is needed. The Long Range IMP round can be fired at ranges of up to 35 metres through doors and glass, and will produce an immediate, large volume cloud of CS dust up to 10 metres behind a barricade. The round is designed so that ricochets and over penetration will not occur. The IMP round is supplied in a clear plastic cartridge case with a black top.
The Primetake Short Range IMP (Irritant Multi‐Purpose) round can be fired at very close range and will produce an immediate, large volume, cloud of CS dust up to 10m behind a barricade. The Short Range IMP can also be used during crowd control operations. The round can be fired at an angle above a crowd to produce an immediate cloud burst of CS dust for up to 10 metres.
Using a typical front door of a house set into a frame Primetake demonstrated the effectiveness of the IMP round by firing two rounds through the door. Standing to the side we were able to see the cloud of CS dust that was formed after each round penetrated through the door.
12 Gauge Stabilised Impact Round
The Primetake Stabilised Impact ( SIP ) Round is designed to be used in civil disturbance situations to incapacitate targets using non lethal force. The SIP Round fires a stabilised single impact projectile which will incapacitate or distract targeted aggressive persons. The SIP Round is highly accurate with controlled impact, energy and velocity. The round contains a nitrocellulose propellant which fires a cotton bag with polyester tails, which contains a rubber pouch with a mixture of micronised stainless steel, chalk and steel shot. The SIP round is supplied in a yellow aluminium cartridge case.
The SIP round has an effective range out to 25 metres, but maintains a high level of accuracy beyond this range, with elevation of the shotgun required to achieve hits at a greater distance. On impact the SIP round expands up to three times its original diameter, which significantly reduces the risk of penetrating injuries. Primetake gave a demonstration of the operation and effectiveness of the SIP Round on their test range. We were able to see the accuracy of the projectile and that it will stay complete and hold together upon impacting the target.

12 Gauge Anti Material Round
The 12 Gauge Anti‐Material round is designed to disrupt and disable soft skin vehicles by penetration of engine blocks and / or tyres. This round can also be used in a marine environment against small boats and RIB’s. The Anti‐Material round can be fired at ranges of up to 35m and will penetrate hard targets using a hardened steel projectile. The round consists of a multi‐layer sabot comprising of a plastic outer coating, a brass inner sleeve and finally a steel penetrator. The sabot “sheds its skin” when penetrating hard targets.
Primetake shotgun ammunition will also function through semi automatic shotguns
like this 12 gauge Benelli, which is also used by UK Forces.
12 Gauge RAM Round
The RAM round is designed as a method of entry (MOE) for use at close range against a target to achieve disruption of hinges, locks and other door furniture. This cartridge is also ideal for deflating car tyres and can be used for close range humane despatch of animals. The RAM round contains micronised stainless steel powder particles, which create a ripping action to disrupt the target. This also ensures that ricochets and over penetration will not occur. The RAM round can also be used in short barrelled semi‐automatic shotguns such as the Molot. It is supplied in a black plastic cartridge case with a black top. The RAM round can be fired by placing the barrel of the shotgun as close as 25mm from the target and is accurate at up to 35 metres for secondary tasks.
The RAM Round can be fired with the muzzle of the shotgun placed as close as 25mm to the door hinge or lock.
Going back to the front door set into a frame, Primetake demonstrated the effectiveness of the 12 Gauge RAM round. The muzzle of the pump action shotgun was placed close to the door hinges and fired. The hinges were ripped apart and the door was separated from the frame. This enables the door to be pushed inwards to allow the entry team to access the property. As well as door hinges the RAM round can also be used on door locks. A RAM round was fired into the door lock and this separated the lock from the door frame.

to disrupt the target, the RAM Round will separate a door from the hinge and door frame.

Non Lead Frangible Ammunition
High lead levels revealed by blood tests in the bodies of shooters and instructors, especially those who spend a lot of time on indoor shooting ranges, is a common occurrence. This can be induced by both touch and inhalation. Lead is a known environmental hazard and lead free ammunition has numerous advantages for both your health and the environment.
Primetake’s specialist 5.56mm ammunition is designed to function

Recent advances in non toxic ammunition technology have offered a solution to this problem. Lead free ammunition is now in common use by many law enforcement and military organisations, producing great results and dramatically reducing the hazards produced by lead. By dramatically reducing the amount of airborne lead, especially on indoor shooting ranges, the advantages are inevitable.
Primetake has four types of non lead frangible ammunition, which are:-
9mm 100 grain Green Elite NT Frangible
5.56mm ( .223") REM 45 grain Green Elite NT Frangible
7.62mm ( .308") WIN 125 grain Green Elite NT Frangible
7.62mm ( .308") WIN 140 grain JOT Frangible
9mm Counter Terror Round
The 9mm Counter Terror (CT) round is designed for use in areas, such as the interior of an aircraft and where bystanders and hostage situations demand a low risk of over penetration and ricochet. The bullet imparts all its kinetic energy within the target. Collateral damage is minimised or eliminated altogether. The 9mm CT Round is obviously an ideal round for Sky Marshals on operational duties.
The 9mm Counter Terror (CT) round is designed for use in the interior of an aircraft and where
bystanders and hostage situations demand a low risk of over penetration and ricochet.
The projectile has been specifically designed for reducing the risk of collateral damage, but at the same time retains astonishing stopping power. It contains micronised pressed powders which are lead free. The components are opaque to x‐ray, and the round has been designed to CIP safe working pressures. It has been tested for use in a 9mm Glock 17 pistol and 9mm Heckler and Koch MP5 sub machinegun.
The effectiveness of the 9mm Counter Terror round was demonstrated by
firing it through a 9mm Glock 17 secured in a remote firing rest
Primetake demonstrated the effectiveness of this round by using it in a 9mm Glock 17 pistol. The Glock was mounted in a remote firing rest and a chronograph was placed in front of the pistol to record the velocity. A gelatin block was placed in the path of the bullet and a round was fired into the gelatin. Examination of the gelatin block showed that the bullet had performed to design, and fragmentation of the component parts of the bullet had not occurred. The penetration cavity was large in diameter and the depth of the trauma in the gelatine was 150mm or six inches, demonstrating that the round will not over penetrate soft targets. This round is an excellent choice where there is serious concern about over penetration, such as in the interior of an aircraft or during a hostage rescue scenario.
When fired into a block of gelatin the 9mm CT round will fragment, creating multiple wound channels
and will not penetrate further that 150mm, making it ideal for use in scenarios when over penetration is a concern.
5.56 x 45mm NATO Subsonic Ammunition
Primetake are currently developing 5.56 x 45mm NATO Subsonic Ammunition. These specialist 5.56mm NATO ( .223 Remington ) rounds are being designed to operate below the speed of sound, which is 343 metres per second ( mps ) at ambient temperature. The reduced velocity means that there is no supersonic sound wave produced by the bullet as it travels through the air. When a rifle, such as the Heckler and Koch 416, is used in conjunction with a Knights suppressor the overall sound levels are greatly reduced, which makes this round ideal for specialist operations where minimum noise may be a priority. The Primetake 5.56mm NATO Subsonic round is being designed and tested to achieve velocities of 320 mps at ambient temperatures, nominally 23 mps below the speed of sound.
Primetake are also currently developing sub sonic ammunition for 5.56mm NATO calibre rifles.
The 5.56mm NATO specialist rounds use precision engineered components manufactured to extremely close tolerances to ensure functionality and repeatability for the user. This round or similar rounds can also be developed for other rifles systems with alternative makes of suppressor and varying barrel lengths.
Omega Sniper Ammunition
Ωmega Sniper AmmunitionPrimetake produces a range of match grade ammunition for use in dedicated sniper operations. The Company has worked with leading sniper rifle manufacturers to develop a highly accurate range of ammunition that enables snipers to achieve hits at long range. Ωmega sniper ammunition is designed for use in high quality bolt action and semi automatic sniper rifles to meet long range sniper requirements for a high first hit probability out to 1500 metres or more. This ammunition is loaded in three calibres; 7.62mm NATO ( .308 Winchester ), 8.6 x 70mm ( .338 Lapua Magnum ) and 12.7 x 99 ( .50 BMG ).
.308 Ωmega Sniper Ammunition
The Primetake Ωmega Sniper Ammunition has been designed for high accuracy bolt action rifles out to a normal engagement distance of up to 800 metres for the 168 grain bullet and 1,000 metres for the 175 grain bullet. The projectile is a match quality Hollow Point Boat Tail (HPBT ) bullet which is designed for extended range performance, and is extremely accurate through sniper rifles with a rifling twist of one revolution in 11 inches. This is match accuracy competition grade ammunition which gives consistent results in a wide range of rifles. Primetake are able to assist in the production of ballistic data for specific rifle - sight combinations, and performance can be tuned to specific rifles.
Primetake .308 Winchester Ωmega Sniper Ammunition has been
designed for high accuracy bolt action rifles.

.338 Lapua Magnum Ωmega Sniper Ammunition
The projectile in the .338 Lapua Magnum ( LM ) round is either a 250 or 300 grain copper jacket hollow point boat tail (HPBT) match round, which is open tipped and non expanding. This round has a high ballistic coefficient for excellent long range performance. Hand loaded to customer requirements, the exceptionally low velocity spread from shot to shot aids accuracy. The overall length of the round can be specified to suit particular makes and model of rifles. This Lapua Magnum ammunition is suitable for rifles with barrels that have 1 in 10 inch or 1 in 11 inch rifling twists, subject to which grain is being used.
.50 Ωmega Sniper Ammunition
The Primetake Ωmega sniper ammunition in .50 calibre has been designed as a highly accurate long range round. The purpose of .50 calibre sniper rifles is for use in anti material roles against lightly armoured vehicles, buildings and fortifications, or equipment vital to the enemy that can be rendered unusable or be degraded by a well placed shot. Designed for use in high quality rifle – telescopic sight combinations of bolt action and semi automatic rifles, Primetake customers have reported successful engagements at ranges of two kilometres.
This calibre of ammunition uses precision manufactured components, thus achieving a high level of accuracy and consistency. The round is capable of sub ½ minute of angle ( M.O.A. ) accuracy through high quality rifles. Performance is dependent upon the quality and specification of the firearm selected. Primetake are able to work with customers to produce ballistic tables for specific weapon combinations. Standard ballistic data is available upon request. The .50 Cal rifle can be loaded with different bullet types for varying tasks.
Pyrotechnical Devices
PYROTECHNICAL DEVICESAs well as specialised ammunition Primetake Limited also produce a wide range of specialised pyrotechnical devices. These devices can be used to produce many different effects such as signalling, illumination, distraction, simulation or stun in training or operational roles.
Diversionary Devices
Diversionary devices can be either hand thrown or electrically initiated. The potential targets or applications can include tactical entry, breaching, distraction, diversion, space denial and training.
Distraction devices come in a variety of configurations, such as single or multiple bang.
The level of the noise and the intensity of the shock wave produced can be set at different levels.
The GR-20 diversionary device is an ergonomically designed reloadable device that consists of a hexagonal top and base with a multi radial ported body and one handed non rattle lever assembly. The device can be reloaded up to 100 times with a variety of different levels of powered sound units to meet the demands of both training with a lower decibel level and operational requirements with a range of higher decibel levels.
For a continuous series of bangs the distraction devices
can be assembled into one continuous length.
On detonation the distraction device will produce a single
or multiple bang depending on the cartridge used.
Operational Adaptability
The GR-20 is equipped with a lever mechanism that offers one handed deployment and zero rattle rings. This device is also equipped with an accessory attachment point so that the device can be adapted to different operational requirements. Accessories available include magnetic bases, glass breaker, bang poles, multi bang adapter and reloads.
Primetake demonstrated the range of distraction devices from single bang to the pulse or multi bang devices. The devices will deploy light, sound and pressure from each blast, but you can deploy the devices at close range without ant risk of injury to an entry team.
The bang stick can be assembled to a length to produce a known
series of bangs that can be adjustedto suit the requirements of the
entry team as they gain access to a target.
The component parts of these devices can be reloaded with new sound units and can be re-used many times. The intensity of the pyrotechnic charge can be varied to suit training or operational needs. We tried out the distraction devices by throwing and also using the magnetic bases to secure the device in place. When the device detonates the magnetic base will hold the body of the device in place. Assembling a bang stick we were able to set of a chain of bangs. The bang stick can also be thrown into a building. We tried this by forcing the bang stick through the glass in the front door we had used when testing the different types of shotgun ammunition.
