In IPSC shooting competitions eye and ear protection is compulsory, to both protect your sight and hearing. Learning from both experiences in and equipment developed from IPSC competitive shooting ( as many law enforcement and military organisations do ) has lead to the military forces of many countries to supply their troops with eye protection designed to protect soldier’s sight, from feed back gained while engaged in operations, such as those in Afghanistan.

Eye protection is compulsory in IPSC shooting competitions. Following what IPSC has had in place for many years military organisations are now providing eye protection for troops involved in operational duties.
Eye Protection
During the recent IPSC World Shoot PH field tested a set of Oakley SI M Frame glasses. The Oakley SI ( Standard Issue ) Ballistic M Frame 2.0 surpasses ANSI Z87.1 industrial standards for high mass and high velocity impact protection. The M Frame 2.0 additionally meets MIL SPEC MIL-PRF 31013. All lenses are made of pure Plutonite®, a proprietary material that offers the highest level of optical clarity available in eyewear. The frame also features a clip that holds the lens and frame together providing more secure support. The M Frames offer full compatibility with PASGT, CVC, and MICH helmets and also with helmet-mounted night vision devices.
Each Kit Contains
- SI Ballistic M-Frame 2.0 spectacle with Clear Lens and elastomeric nosepiece
- Neutral Grey, bright light protective lens
- Removable / adjustable retention strap
- Crush resistant carrying case
- Micro fiber cloth bag suitable for lens cleaning and supplemental storage within carry case
- Use and care instructions printed on tear proof water resistant material
The S.I. M Frame comes complete in a purpose designed protective carrying case with removable head strap and protective bag.
Oakley SI Line
The SI Line (Standard Issue) is designed by Oakley exclusively for government and military customers. Military protective eyewear has special requirements, with standards for impact resistance, optical clarity and UV protection. All lenses are made of pure Plutonite, a proprietary material that offers a very high level of optical clarity. You get sharp clarity at all angles of view, which maximises peripheral vision and protection against sun, wind and side impact.The grey lens controls reflection and transmission, while the clear lenses provide optical clarity for night and low light shooting. Lens geometry maintains razor sharp clarity to keep your focus on the target and a low profile nosepiece will not distort your field of view. Using them during the match I found them to be comfortable while being worn all day under hearing protection. Even with the dark lens installed the view of the targets was still sharp. The lenses did not fog up in the heat and are easy to remove from the frame and swap over. I also wore the clear lens while zeroing in a telescopic sight for hunting deer this winter. The Oakley M Frames did not interfere with my view while looking through the telescopic sight. The storage case kept the S.I. M Frames and additional lens sets protected when not in use.
The clear lens can be used while shooting on indoor ranges and in both low light and in night shooting situations.
