The Czech Limit Ammunition Company

The Czech Limit Ammunition Company, Posted in Ammunition

Limit produces 9mm Production Division Loads

The Limit Amunition Company manufactures and sells pistol ammunition and components for reloading ammunition. One of the areas the company is specifically focused on the manufacture of ammunition in 9mm Parabellum caliber and components for reloading this caliber for use in practical pistol competition shooting. Their Match 100 is loaded with a 124 grain full metal jacket ( FMJ ) bullet and their other load developbed for IPSC competition uses a 140 grain FMJ bullet.

The Extreme European 2013 Level III Championship Match ( www.extremeeuroopen.eu ) was held at the Hodonice Shooting Range, near Znojmo in the Czech Republic on the 6th to the 8th June. This Level III Championship Match consisted of 30 stages put together by Match Directors Lubor Novak and Milan Trkulja and their team for a 550 minimum round count.

The ammunition requirement for both this competition and the other the big Level III matches around Europe easily exceeds the five kilograms of ammunition that you are permitted to carry on an aircraft. This has given the organisers of these events a big headache to ensure that competitors have enough ammunition to complete all the stages of the match. The solution used at the European Extreme Open was to have the Limit Ammunition Company ( www.limit.cz ) to supply the designated match ammunition for competitors to use.

The Limit Ammunition Factory supplied the match ammunition for the EEO.
As well as various types of ammunition Limit also had their range of
reloading products on display as well.
Running the Limit Stand at the CZ Czech Extreme were
Tereze Hetmerova, Marian Koutny and Lenka Latalova.

The Limit Amunition Company manufactures and sells pistol ammunition and components for reloading ammunition. One of the areas the company is specifically focused on the manufacture of ammunition in 9mm Parabellum caliber and components for reloading this caliber for use in practical pistol competition shooting. Production is carried out with reloading machines and components from Dillon, Sellier and Bellot and Camdex. All products are certified by the State Inspectorate of arms and ammunition and the Czech Republic complies with International C.I.P. standards. The Limit Company has supplied ammunition since 2004 and currently supplies ammunition to other the European countries as well as the Czech Republic.

CZ IPSC Shooting Team

CZ IPSC Shooting Team

Several members of the CZ IPSC Shooting Team use Limit ammunition. The company also makes specalist ammunition for the law enforcement market both in the Czech Republic and for export. Limt provided two new 9mm loads for this competition, which I have tested. The Match 100 is loaded with a 124 grain full metal jacket      ( FMJ ) bullet and their other load developbed for IPSC competition uses a 140 grain FMJ bullet. For competitors who were shooting in Standard Division Limit also provided a 180 grain FMJ Top Target Ammunition load from Fiocchi.

Accuracy Testing

Accuracy Testing

I carried out a series of accuracy and velocity tests on these two types of the Limit 9mm ammunition and the .40 S&W Fiocchi 180 grain FMJ Top Target ammunition. Using a CZ75 SP01 and Sphinx Production 3000 9mm pistols and a STI Edge and Executive .40 calibre pistols the accuracy of the factory and ammunition was tested in a Ransom Rest. The Ransom Rest eliminates all human error when accuracy testing ammunition. I measured the velocity of the three different loads with a CED M2 Chronograph. I also used a 9mm Glock 17 and Grand Power X Calibur pistols to check the hand held accuracy and functional reliability of both types of Limit factory 9mm ammunition. These four 9mm pistols are among the most commonly encountered at practical pistol events.

From the Ransom Rest the two types of Limit 9mm factory ammunition
produce tight groups and achieved Minor Power Factor
                                                                   in this Sphinx Production 3000.

With the CZ 75 SP01 secured in the Ransom Rest and the target set at 25 metres range the 9mm 124 Match 100 FMJ factory load was able to produce a five shot group of 2.48 inches ( 63 mm ) at a velocity of 1089 feet per second ( fps ), with a power factor of 135. The Limit factory round loaded with the 140 grain FMJ bullet produced a five shot group of 1.73 inches ( 44 mm ) in size at a velocity of 941 fps, with a power factor of 131.7.

With the CZ75 SP01 the 9mm 124 Match 100 FMJ factory load was able
to produce a five shot group of 2.48 inches ( 63 mm ) at a velocity of
1089 fps, with a power factor of 135.

When tested in a Sphinx Production 3000 9mm pistol the 9mm 124 Match 100 FMJ factory load was able to produce a five shot group of 2.01 inches ( 51 mm ) at a velocity of 1109 feet per second ( fps ), with a power factor of 137.5. The Limit factory round loaded with the 140 grain FMJ bullet produced a five shot group of 1.18 inches ( 30 mm ) in size at a velocity of 953 fps, with a power factor of 133.4.

The .40 S&W Fiocchi 180 grain FMJ Top Target truncated cone copper plated ammunition was tested in an STI Edge and Executive pistols. In the Edge this load was able to produce a five shot group of 2.60 inches ( 66 mm ) at a velocity of 1009 feet per second ( fps ), with a power factor of 181.6. In the Executive this load was able to produce a five shot group of 2.44 inches ( 62 mm ) at a velocity of 1006 feet per second ( fps ), with a power factor of 181.1.

In the STI Executive this load was able to produce a five shot group
of 2.44 inches ( 62 mm ) at a velocity of 1006 feet per second with
                                                                             a power factor of 181.1.

The images grips on the STI Executive are designed by www.extremeshooters.com

The IPSC power factor is the bullet velocity in feet per second ( fps ) multiplied by the bullet weight in grains divided by 1000. A lot of competitors on the practical pistol competition circuit load 9mm ammunition, with what ever bullet weight, to a power factor of 130 to 140. This ensures that the pistol will function properly and also have enough energy to knock down steel targets. IPSC rules state that to score minor calibre on the target the power factor must be greater than 125. For those shooting Standard Division using .40 S&W calibre pistols the power factor must exceed 170.

Accuracy and Functional Reliability

Accuracy and Functional Reliability

Accuracy results with either the factory or reloaded ammunition showed a consistency between 1.18 to 2.60 inches, or 30 to 66 mm. Primer ignition and functional reliability was 100 % with the two 9mm loads and one .40 S&W load in the six pistols used. Examining the primer indentation I could see that they were all well struck. All six pistols were fitted with the original factory parts, with some minor detailing and smoothing of parts to improve the feel of the trigger. In Production Division IPSC rules limit the amount of changes that can be carried out and that all internal parts must be from the pistols original manufacturer.

The .40 S&W Fiocchi 180 grain FMJ Top Target ammunition was tested
                                     in an
STI Edge and Executive pistols and a Tanfoglio .40 calibre pistol
and achieved major power factor in all three pistols.

If you take part in any graded practical pistol competition and use the ammunition that is supplied by the competition organisers you will have deemed to have made the power factor for the IPSC Division you are competing in, so you not have to worry about the chronograph result. This will be of benefit to those who fly to competitions and purchase all the ammunition they will require at the match, or fly with five kilograms weight of ammunition and need to purchase additional ammunition to enable them to complete the competition. It will also be useful to people who live in countries were you are not permitted to reload ammunition
